Shout-out to Pelican Water’s Up and Coming Designer!
Pelican Waters Caloundra Swim Club has always had a distinctly identifiable brand featuring a pelican in the logo with very specific colours across their uniforms and digital channels. The club was however, in need of a refresh of their club shirts and hoodies, so they floated a design competition amongst the members to see what concepts they could come up with.

The swimmer that designed the polo is Jessica (age 11). Her original design was a sketch which featured a pelican on the front, bottom of the polo, the traditional logo on the front, top, the club name across the back and some contrast paneling to feature the club colours.
The new swimming club polo design has been implemented to promote a sense of club pride for existing members as well as appeal to new members and we think it looks AMAZING!
Well done to Jessica for her design and to the club’s committee for creating some team spirit and a sense of inclusivity and belonging to their community 🙂

Tell us what you did when you found out you were the winner
“I was shocked and I didn’t believe that I had won but when everyone started messaging me I realised that it was true.”
Do you think you will want to become a designer when you are older?
“I have always loved fashion and have heaps of designing games on my phone but I am only 11 so who knows anything is possible.”
Are your friends and family excited to be wearing your design soon?
“I have had messages from all of my swimming friends to say they love the shirt. I can’t wait to see it when it’s ready. It looks amazing.”
Is there anything that inspired your design?
“I am not sure I just drew what I would like to wear.”
How many rough drafts did you do before settling on this design?
“I only did a few drafts mainly because I had trouble drawing Percy the pelican. Team Elite are amazing though they took my simple drawing and created this amazing shirt that looks exactly like I had imagined.”
